Einführung

Ladies and gentlemen,
Dear friends of Nepal,

The German-Nepal Friendship Association (DNG) has been founded on April 19, 1967, in Cologne. Main object of the association, as laid down in the statute, is the cultivation of informative relations between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Kingdom of Nepal as defined by understanding among nations and mutual respect. The DNG is independent and neutral towards party politics and religions. It is exclusively financed by subscription fees and donations of members and friends.

Since its foundation, the DNG has organized and promoted lectures, academic symposiums, concerts, dance events, exhibitions and visits to museums, often in cooperation with similarly oriented sister organizations. The yearly general meeting is combined with the so-called "Nepal-Tag" (Nepal Day) with lectures and exhibitions. Twice a year, the voluminous journal "Nepal Information" is published under the management of Dr. Wolf Donner, presenting topical and basic articles on Nepal, among them numerous contributions by Nepali authors in German translation. Occasionally, the DNG also promotes other publications. The DNG's income is partly used to support institutions of public education in Nepal or as aid in case of natural disasters. Individual projects are also supported through earmarked funds. Such projects have to be run by NGOs in Nepal. The strength of the DNG depends upon the individual commitment of its members. Over the years, many Nepalis have been financially and ideally supported in education and know-how transfer. The DNG could further help many Germans through information and advice concerning travels to Nepal.

The DNG is in close contact to the authorities and organizations dealing with Nepal as well as to sister organizations at home and abroad. Visits of Nepali politicians in Germany are used for the exchange of ideas. Most of the about 600 members have visited Nepal or are indebted to the country in other ways. Among them are many experts who have worked or researched in one or the other area in Nepal. So, the DNG today is a forum for all Nepal friends who want to deal with the country or want to be regularly informed.

The members of the committee are Dipl.-Kfm. Ram Pratap Thapa (president), Horst Lemmer (1st vice-president), Dr. Ulrich Schmidt (vice-president), Ruth Beck (treasurer), and others. Recently, a separate working group has been founded in Berlin headed by Consul Dr. Ulrich Schmidt, Dil Gurung and Dipl.-Geog. Klaus Graetz. Those living in or near Berlin may directly contact this Berlin circle.

We thank for your interest and hope to welcome you as a member of our association. Please don't hesitate to ask for further information.

With best greetings and Namaste

Ram Pratap Thapa
(president)
